License
The webChronicle core library is AGPL-3.0-or-later. The desktop app wrapper is proprietary.
Open source core
The webChronicle core library — the scraping engine, builder, and local server — is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later (AGPL-3.0-or-later).
This means you can:
- Use it for any purpose, personal or commercial
- Study and modify the source code
- Redistribute copies
- Share your modifications
The catch: if you operate a network service that uses the core library (modified or not), you must make your source code available to users of that service under the same AGPL license.
Desktop app wrapper
The webChronicle desktop application — the graphical UI, auto-updater, and cross-platform build pipeline that wraps the core library — is proprietary software. A commercial license for the desktop app funds ongoing development of the open source core.
The desktop app is currently in development. When it ships, a one-time purchase will include all future versions.
Commercial license
If AGPL terms don’t work for your use case (for example, you want to embed webChronicle in a closed-source product), contact contact@freshjuice.dev for a commercial license.
